Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing divine entities, fiends, and dark forces increasing in strength within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 are included.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of heroes who will split off from the primary party to begin their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

Hence, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Prelude, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might seem out of place, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the party knows exactly where to go next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose death initiated the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, assaulting the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.

The antagonist then settled his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each character has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the region and warns that it is a nasty place.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could enable the party reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor pledged a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The cleric defied House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the family.

This means them no alternative but to head to Timmony in search of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the other eight participants to form the Explorers and Schemers tables.

Viewers can anticipate finding out which players will be where in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
