Fall Classic Final Game Draws 51 Million Viewers In the United States, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The thrilling extended matchup that saw the Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays 5-4 drew a total 51 million spectators in the US, Canadian, and Japan territories. Major League Baseball announced this marks the most-watched World Series finale since the 1991 edition contest between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic contest drew 27.33 million viewers on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated program of the week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic game since the 2017 final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew over 29 million. This marks a 16% increase compared to the last Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked fourth, Game 4 was 7th, the fifth game was 8th, and the third game landed in 13th place.

International Audience Figures

In Canada, the game drew over 11 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English program in Canada since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game began at 9 PM in the local time zone, it drew 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series MVP Yamamoto gave up a single run in six frames – averaged 13.1 million spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a single network in the country.

Series Averages and Trends

The entire seven-match series recorded over 15.7 million audience members on the Fox network, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the initial instance since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen viewership growth for two consecutive years.

Including the opening game telecast on Univision, the total US viewership reached 16.1M. The total World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09 million watchers, an 8% increase compared to last year and the network’s best postseason ratings after 2017.

MLB reported that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 different languages.
