The former Brazilian leader has been arrested after authorities found he posed a definite escape threat while under domestic detention.

The former head of state was found guilty of planning a government overthrow in the ninth month and handed more than 27 years in incarceration, but he remained under house arrest pending court reviews.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice the presiding justice said the action to imprison the septuagenarian politician was a precautionary step after "new facts" were revealed.

Legal Document Reveals Flight Fears

Recent Legal Requests

It was only on the previous day that the former president's lawyers asked the Supreme Court to permit him to fulfill his full incarceration period under home confinement, with electronic monitoring.

They also requested that the former president be allowed to exit his dwelling for medical treatment, saying he required frequent medical attention for respiratory ailments and other ailments.

Context of Sentencing

Bolsonaro was convicted of heading a conspiracy aimed at retaining his authority after he failed to win the 2022 election to his political opponent, President Lula.

Top judicial officials said that he knew of a scheme which encompassed plans to kill his opponent and his running partner, Alckmin, and to detain and kill the presiding judge - the top judicial official who has been presiding over the former president's case.
